1. India receives just 0.68 per cent of international tourists

Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma has announced that India receives less than one per cent international tourists annually and their average stay in the country has come down by two days. The minister said efforts have been made to attract more and more international tourists to the country. Various initiatives have been taken by the government to attract more foreign tourists that include e-tourist visa, providing financial assistance to state governments launching 12 theme based tourist circuits.

The Minister said in 2011-12, on an average foreign tourists in India used to stay 20-22 days at a stretch which has come down to 18-20 days now.

2. Delhi govt launches e-District project to offer services

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has launched an ambitious ‘e-District project’. By this the people of Delhi will now be able to access a host of Delhi government services online and get documents verified for the issuance of nearly a dozen certificates. The inauguration comes days after the Cabinet approved a proposal to make 12 government services hassle-free through the doing away of the need to produce affidavits, and also introduced the concept of self-attestation. Stressing on the need for publicising the project, Kejriwal said that “small reports” in the media would not be enough to make the public aware about its utility and touts would continue to thrive.

3. Nestle resumes Maggi noodles prodn at India plants

Nestle India has announced that the company has resumed production of Maggi noodles at all five facilities in India. Nestle, which relaunched Maggi noodles on November 9 after a five-months ban, has started production of Maggi noodles from its Tahliwal plant in Himachal Pradesh. Nestle manufacturers Maggi noodles at its plants in Nanjangud (Karnataka), Moga (Punjab) Bicholim (Goa) and Tahliwal and Pantnagar in Himachal Pradesh.

4. Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg won 2015 Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Yas Island, marking his third successive victory of the season. Starting on the pole position, Rosberg, 30, who holds German and Finnish citizenship crossed the finishing line after 55 laps on the Yas Marina Circuit, won by 8.2 seconds ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton, Xinhua reported.

His success also marked Mercedes’ 12th one-two finish of the season, representing a new Formula-1 record. In front of over 60,000 motor sports aficionados from over 170 countries, Finnish F1 pilot Kimi Raikkonen (Scuderia Ferrari) completed the race as third, ahead of his 28—year old German teammate and four—time F1 Champion Sebastian Vettel.

5. Australian football icon Joe Marston died

Australian football icon Joe Marston has passed away on Sunday (29th November) morning. The 89-year-old was a pioneer for the game in this country, the first Australian to feature in an FA Cup final when he was a fan favourite at Preston North End, playing in their 1954 loss to West Bromwich Albion. He played more than 200 games for the club after his 1950 move, including 196 straight, and is one of the Socceroos’ most famous names, donning the green and gold 34 times between 1947 and 1963.

6. Tyson Fury defeated Wladimir Klitschko to become world heavyweight champion

Britain’s Tyson Fury pulled off one of the great boxing upsets as he outpointed Wladimir Klitschko to become heavyweight champion of the world. Ukrainian Klitschko, whose nine-year reign as champion was brought to an end, simply could not work the challenger out and did not do enough to win. Fury, who was awarded the fight 115-112, 115-112, 116-111 on the judges’ scorecards, is now the WBA, IBF and WBO champion.

The 27-year-old Manchester fighter is only Britain’s fifth bona fide heavyweight world champion after Bob Fitzsimmons, Lennox Lewis, Frank Bruno and David Haye.  Klitschko had not been beaten since 2004 and his second reign as champion included 19 successful defences.

7. Government to introduce special identity cards for differently-abled people

Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot has revealed that the Centre was planning to introduce special identity cards for all persons with disabilities. It would enable them to claim the benefits of various government welfare schemes. Gehlot also announced a financial aid of Rs 19 crores for completing the project. The Minister said the government has extended pre-matric and post-matric scholarships to all eligible students.

8. Climate Change Summit begins in Paris

November 30th marks the beginning of a major two-week climate summit in Paris. The meeting will be attended by dozens of world leaders will negotiate over ways to slow the pace of climate change.

9. CHOGM: India pledges $2.5 million aid for climate change

India has announced $2.5 million in aid for the small states in the Commonwealth to help them combat climate change in the 24th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting or CHOGM. Leaders from 53 Commonwealth countries, including India, are meeting in Malta for the biennial summit of the bloc amid unprecedented security to explore concerted global efforts to deal with terrorism and climate change.

CHOGM is held after every two years and the theme for this year’s meeting is ‘Adding Global Value’. India has announced $ 2.5 million in aid for the small states in the Commonwealth to help them combat climate change.

10. Interceptor boat ICGS C-422 commissioned into Indian Coast Guard service

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has commissioned an interceptor boat (ICGS C-422) at the Karaikal port. This will enhance the port’s shallow water operational capability along the South Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast. Speaker of the Puducherry Assembly V. Sabapathy commissioned ICGS C-422 with full military honours in the presence of Inspector-General S.P. Sharma, Commander, Coast Guard Region (East), Deputy Inspector-General S.C. Tyagi and Karaikal Station Commandant S.N.M. Patnaik.

11. Russia imposes economic sanctions against Turkey

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree imposing a raft of punitive economic sanctions against Turkey. Putin has taken this decision after Turkey shot down a Russian warplane. The decree, which entered into force immediately, said charter flights from Russia to Turkey would be banned, that tour firms would be told not to sell any holidays there, and that unspecified Turkish imports would be outlawed, and Turkish firms and nationals have their economic activities halted or curbed.

12. Bharti Airtel to shell out Rs 60,000 cr for network upgrade

The country’s largest telecom service provider Bharti Airtel plans to invest Rs 60,000 crore over the next three years on network transformation. The development comes ahead of impending launch of 4G services by Reliance Jio, owned by Mukesh Ambani, in the next year which is expected to increase the competition in the telecom sector.

The network transformation under the Project Leap will also enable the firm in improving the quality of voice services, especially at a time when mobile users have been severely impacted by ongoing call drops situation. Telecom regulator TRAI has even asked operators to pay Rupee one as compensation for every call drop (maximum three a day) to the mobile users starting January 2016.

13. Andy Murray wins the Davis Cup for Great Britain

Great Britain have won the Davis Cup for the first time since 1936 after Andy Murray beat Belgium’s David Goffin to clinch the decisive point in Ghent. Murray won 6-3 7-5 6-3 to give the visitors an unassailable 3-1 lead in the best-of-five tie. Britain have now won the team title 10 times, while Murray adds the Davis Cup to his other major titles at Wimbledon, the US Open and the Olympic Games. Captain Leon Smith guided Britain from the third tier to glory in five years.

14. Tamil Nadu has maximum number of operational SEZs

Parliament has announced that, a total of 36 special economic zones (SEZs) are operational in Tamil Nadu, followed by Telangana and Karnataka. In Telangana and Karnataka, 26 SEZs in each state are operational. As of now a total of 204 SEZs are exporting. As on June 30, a total of 15,04,597 persons have been provided employments in SEZs. The government has approved 19 proposals for setting up of new zones in 10 states, including Andhra Pradesh (1),Maharashtra (4) and Uttar Pradesh (2) during the last three years and current fiscal till November 30.

15. China’s yuan set for IMF reserve status

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is expected to announce that China’s currency, the yuan, will join the fund’s group of international basket of reserve currencies. Just the US dollar, the euro, Japan’s yen and the British pound are currently part of this select band. Earlier this month, IMF head Christine Lagarde backed the yuan’s inclusion. If the decision is made, the yuan is likely to join the basket next year, experts said.

China is the world’s second largest economy behind the US and asked for the yuan to become a reserve currency last year. Reserve currencies are used by central banks and other financial organisations to help pay down international debt and steady exchange rates. The last change made to the basket was in 2000, when the euro replaced the deutschmark and the franc.

16. South Korea ratifies free trade deal with China

South Korea has ratified a free trade agreement (FTA) with China that would remove most tariffs between Asia’s largest and fourth-largest economies. The pact, signed in June, was passed by parliament with a 196-33 majority, although it still needs China’s ratification in order to take effect. The Seoul government has promised to provide about one trillion won (USD 865 million) in direct financial support for farmers and fishermen who argue that their livelihoods will be severely affected by the deal.

Negotiations for the agreement, which began in 2012, had often been marred by angry protests from South Korean farmers who fear an influx of cheap Chinese imports. In an effort to assuage opponents, the final pact excluded many of South Korea’s major farming and fisheries goods like rice, beef, pork, pepper and squid.

17. Anil Khanna re-elected as president of Asian Tennis Federation

Anil Khanna was on 28 November 2015 re-elected as the president of Asian Tennis Federation (ATF). He was elected for four years in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

At present, he is the president of the All India Tennis Association (AITA). In September 2015, he was elected as the Vice President of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in the elections held in Santiago, Chile.
