- Union Government constitutes Amitabh Kant Committee to push cashless transactions
The Centre announced a new committee, headed by Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, to form a strategy to expedite the process of transforming India into a cashless economy. The panel is tasked with identifying various bottlenecks affecting access of digital payments. The committee was set up following a directive from the Prime Minister’s Office to back up the demonetisation move.

- First International Gita Mahotsav to be celebrated in Haryana
The first-ever International Gita Mahotsav, being organised and celebrated by the Haryana government in Kurukshetra, will offer people a unique spectacle and also make for a nucleus of global attraction. Talking on this at a press conference at Haryana Bhavan in Delhi, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said the mega event, to be held from December 6-10 this year, would set a world record with the recitation of ‘Ashtadash Shloki Gita’ by as many as 18,000 students at one go.

- Culture ministry releases coins to mark 500th anniversary of Hindu saint
Union culture ministry has released a commemorative non-circulation Rs 500 and a Rs 10 coin circulation coin as part of the yearlong celebrations marking the 500th anniversary of Hindu saint and social reformer Shri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s visit to Vrindavan.
Narendra Kumar Sinha, secretary, ministry of culture released the coins as the government is commemorating the 500th anniversary of Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s Coming to Vrindavan by organising various programmes and exhibitions on Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s life and teachings in association with Vrindavan Research Institute and ISKCON.

- Maharashtra govt names Oshiwara railway station Ram Mandir
Maharashtra government has issued a notification naming the new Oshiwara station, which is located between Jogeshwari and Goregaon, Ram Mandir. As the state is yet to get nod from the railways, the decision may trigger a controversy. Meanwhile, the new station was to be inaugurated on 27 November 2016. The area outside the station is known as Ram Mandir, as there is a temple in the vicinity.

- IFFI showing movies for visually impaired
The International Film Festival of India is showing movies for the visually impaired, with special audio described technology. Three films that are being screened at the festival in Goa under the Accessible India Campaign are Gandhi, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Dhanak. The festival is conducted jointly by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Directorate of Film Festivals and the Government of Goa.

- INOX Leisure ties up with SBI for dispensing cash
State Bank of India (SBI) has to facilitate this transaction at the nearest INOX multiplex using a debit card. Citizens can simply swipe their debit cards, enter their PIN number and take up to Rs 2,000 in cash per card per day. The facility will be available across 17 properties, and will be made available at the remaining 89 properties over the course of the weekend.

- South Indian Bank launches contactless debit card
South Indian Bank has announced the launch of its contactless debit card. The Near Field Communication (NFC) technology makes the contactless cards very secure, as the card does not leave the cardholder’s possession. Customers can also opt to use their card as a normal CHIP card and transact in a ‘contact’ mode.
Once the merchant enters the purchase amount in the contactless PoS terminal, the customer simply has to just wave the card on the terminal and the payment is processed wirelessly in a fast and secure manner.

OBITUARY
- Cuba’s former President Fidel Castro passes away
Cuba’s former president Fidel Castro, one of the world’s longest-serving and most iconic leaders, has died aged 90.Castro toppled the government in 1959, introducing a Communist revolution. He defied the US for decades, surviving many assassination plots. Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz was a Cuban politician and revolutionary who governed the Republic of Cuba as Prime Minister from 1959 to 1976 and then as President from 1976 to 2008.
