  1. HDFC Bank’s Puri ranked 36th in Fortune’s top business men list

HDFC Bank’s Aditya Puri has been ranked 36th in the US magazine Fortune’s top 50 business persons list for 2016, and is the only Indian among three persons of Indian origin in the global rankings. Puri, who has led the second largest private sector lender since its inception in 1994, has been ranked 36th in the list, which evaluates corporate leaders’ business performance.

  1. Chhattisgarh: First state to adopt resolution on demonetization

Chhattisgarh has become the first state to adopt a resolution welcoming the demonetisation of high-value currency notes, the state Assemblyadopted a resolution moved by Chief Minister Raman Singh welcoming the Centre’s decision. All arrangements had been made in the state to make online payments to farmers for their paddy procured under support price system.

  1. President Mukherjee inaugurates the India International Trade Fair in Delhi

President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the India International Trade Fair in DElhi which will see participation of over 150 companies from 27 countries. This year’s edition of the mega trade fair with “Digital India” theme is being held between November 14 and 27. Addressing the inauguration ceremony, he observed that “digital technologies, e-commerce, e-enabled and mobile services are major components of e-governance and will over the time contribute significantly to GDP growth.”

  1. Govt launches revamped toll-free helpline no 1947 for info on Aadhaar

With the growing use of Aadhaar in transactions related to services like Banking, Government Welfare Schemes, etc., the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), launched a revamped version of its Toll-free helpline number: 1947, to help residents get quick access to information about Aadhaar.

  1. International Conference on Brucellosis 2016 begins

The Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences Shri Y.S. Chowdary, has called for villagers to be trained to handle animal diseases like Brucellosis on a cooperative basis. The three day International Conference on Brucellosis, beginning is being organized by the Department of Biotechnology in collaboration with Indian Council for Agriculture Research.

  1. World Philosophy Day: 17 November

World Philosophy Day was proclaimed by UNESCO to be celebrated every 3rd Thursday of November. It was first celebrated on 21 November 2002. By celebrating World Philosophy Day each year, on the third Thursday of November, UNESCO underlines the enduring value of philosophy for the development of human thought, for each culture and for each individual.

  1. Sweden may be first to have national digital currency

Sweden aims to decide on whether to issue a digital currency called “ekrona” within two years. Cecilia Skingsley, deputy governor of Sweden’s central bank Riksbank, told that the bank is considering the move after a dramatic drop in the usage of cash. The amount of notes and coins in circulation has fallen by 40% since 2009, with a rise in online shopping and card payments.

  1. Thailand celebrates festival of lights

Thailand celebrated the festival of lights called Loi Krathong, which is celebrated to pay homage to Lord Buddha. The main events include releasing sky lanterns and floating krathongs, meaning decorated baskets. This year, restrictions on the festivities were observed as the country mourns the death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

  1. Philippines fastest growing Asian economy

The Philippine economy is the fastest growing in Asia, at 7.1% on-year July -September—its most robust rate of growth in three years. The figure, announced by the Philippine Statistics Authority , surpassed the 6.7% median growth estimate of 15 economists surveyed by Bloomberg and matched an estimated 1.2%GDP rise against the previous quarter.

  1. Russia withdraws from International Criminal Court treaty

President Vladimir Putin signed an executive order removing Russia’s signature from the International Criminal Court’s founding treaty, piling pressure on a court that is already reeling from withdrawals by some African countries. Moscow never ratified the treaty, which it signed in 2000, meaning it never became a member subject to its jurisdiction. But the symbolic move coincided with the opening day of the general assembly of member states.

  1. India’s Rustom-II UAV successfully completes maiden test flight

Rustom-II, India’s indigenously developed long-endurance combat-capable drone, today successfully completed its maiden-flight, giving a boost to India’s development programme for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). The DRDO successfully carried out the maiden-flight of TAPAS 201 (RUSTOM–II), a Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAV. It has an endurance of 24 hours and can conduct surveillance and reconnaissance missions for the country’s armed forces.
