- Tata Global Beverages replaces Cyrus Mistry as Chairman, appoints Harish Bhat
Tata Global Beverages replaced Cyrus Mistry with group veteran Harish Bhat as its chairman. This is the second Tata group firm where Mistry has been removed from the post of chairman since he was ousted as the chairman of group holding firm Tata Sons on October 24. On November 10, group’s crown jewel Tata Consultancy Services replaced Mistry with another group veteran Ishaat Hussain as interim chairman.

- President Mukherjee inaugurates the India International Trade Fair in Delhi
President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the India International Trade Fair in DElhi which will see participation of over 150 companies from 27 countries. This year’s edition of the mega trade fair with Digital India theme is being held between November 14 and 27. The inauguration ceremony “digital technologies, e-commerce, e-enabled and mobile services are major components of e-governance and will over the time contribute significantly to GDP growth.

- Thiruvananthapuram becomes country’s ‘breast cancer capital’
Thiruvananthapuram has been termed as the country’s breast cancer capital, with cases at a record high of 40 per lakh of population. Nine lakh women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year and it is the second most common malignancy next to cervical cancer. The revelation was made during the Kerala Chapter of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA) Conference here last week. It noted that 50 per cent of breast cancer is occurring in the age group of under 50 years.

- India’s first Cherry Blossom Festival starts in Meghalaya
Meghalaya became the first state to start India’s first Cherry Blossom Festival, which is widely celebrated in Japan. The four-day festival will also provide opportunities to showcase the unique beauty of pink and white cherry blossoms as well as Meghalaya’s traditional arts, culture and cuisine to the naturalists and tourists. Chief Minister Mukul Sangma inaugurated India’s first Cherry Blossom Festival in this state capital of Meghalaya.

- Federal Bank open its Overseas Branch
Kerala based, Federal Bank announced that RBI has given its approval vide letter dated 08 November 2016 to open a representative office of the Bank in Manama, Bahrain and also to open a branch in DIFC, Dubai, UAE. The permission is subject to other approvals from the host regulator, Dubai Financial Services Authority. The proposed branch at Dubai will help the Bank serve its Non-Resident clientele better.

- Axis Bank To Launch Chat Bots For ‘Intelligent’ Banking
Axis Bank, India’s third largest private bank, is set to launch intelligent banking chat bots to make mobile banking services more conversational. The bank tied up with Active Intelligence Pte or Active.ai, a Singapore-based fintech platform, to launch the bots which will enable customers to chat through its mobile banking app and messaging platforms such as Facebook messenger.

- International Day of Tolerance Nov 16
The International Day for Tolerance is observed on 16 November an annual observance declared by UNESCO in 1995 to generate public awareness of the dangers of intolerance. Every year various conferences and festivals are organized in the occasion of International Day for Tolerance. Among them, “ Universal Tolerance Cartoon Festival ” in Drammen, Norway which organized an International Cartoon Festival in 2013.

- APEC Forum’s Week starts in Lima, Peru
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum’s Week started at Lima in Peru on November 14 bringing together leaders of world’s largest economies, businessmen and investors. A creation of Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific, which would include all APEC states, is one of the main topics on the agenda of the 2016 APEC Summit that is widely seen as the premier business event drawing together business and economic leaders of 21 Pacific Rim countries.

- 20 Nations sign frame work agreement of ISA
Over 20 countries, including Braziland France, have become signatories to the framework agreement of the International Solar Alliance — an initiative that is the brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The framework agreement of International Solar Alliance (ISA) was opened for signatures on the sidelines of CoP22 with Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave saying that with this legal framework in place, the ISA will be a major international body headquartered in India.

- India, ADB signs $500 million loan pact to build 9.8-km Ganga bridge in Bihar
The union government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $500 million loan agreement to builda 9.8-km River Bridge, the country’s longest, across the river Ganga which would provide better connectivity between North and South Bihar and also Patna and its surrounding areas. The new Ganga bridge would serve as an alternative to the existing one and be linked to the National Highway network. The project will include building of embankments, viaducts and toll facilities.

- DRDO’s combat drone Rustom-2 flies for the first time
After a considerable delay, Rustom-2, India’s long endurance UnmannedCombat Air Vehicle (UCAV) finally completed its first flight early in Challakere, about 200km from Bengaluru. The UCAV, which is in the medium-altitude, long endurance (MALE) category of vehicles, sources in the Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) which developed the vehicle.

OBITUARY
- China’s Frist female J-10 pilot dies
China’s first woman pilot of a J-10 fighter jet has died in a flying accident. Yu Xu, 30, who was born in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, was a member of the August 1 aerobatics team of the People’s Liberation Army Air Force. Yu was the first of four women who are certified to fly the J-10, a single-engine multi-role jet that entered service in 2004 and is considered the first Chinese domestic fighter to rival Western fighters in its capabilities.
