11.Samarth – Largest CG offshore patrol vessel commissioned

The Coast Guard’s latest and largest offshore patrol vessel, Samarth, has been commissioned by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. With a displacement of 2450 tonnes, the ship is equipped with sophisticated technology, sensors, navigation, communication and weapon systems. Samarth is first in the series of six 105m offshore patrol vessels and has been built by Goa Shipyard. Backing the Coast Guard’s efforts at modernisation, Parrikar referred to the force earlier this year intercepting a vessel off the Gujarat coast.

12.India wins re-election to UN Commission on International Trade Law

India has been re-elected to the UN Commission on International Trade Law for another six years term, maintaining its unbeaten track record of winning elections at the world body. At an election held in the General Assembly, India was re-elected to UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) for the 2016-2022 term. India would continue to play a constructive role in the UNCITRAL which is recognised as the core legal body of the United Nations system in the field of international trade law.

13.NSDC appoints Jayant Krishna as interim CEO

National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has appointed Jayant Krishna as the interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Krishna will be in office until the selection and appointment of the new MD & CEO, NSDC said in a statement. He is on deputation for the period of his appointment at NSDC from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

14.India frees up foreign direct investment in 15 major sectors

India has eased foreign direct investment norms in 15 major sectors in a bid to drum up investment and speed growth. The government also increased the financial power of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board to give single window clearance for investment projects of up to 50 billion rupees ($753.35 million), from 30 billion.
