  1. Switzerland Tourism names Ranveer Singh as Indian ambassador

Actor Ranveer Singh has been named the first Indian ambassador for promoting 2017 Switzerland Tourism’s campaign- “Nature wants you back”. The 31-year-old Indian heartthrob, who was in a long vacation in Switzerland three months back, is excited for the new venture as he says he cannot wait to endorse the country’s virtues to everybody. The “Bajirao Mastani” star is now looking forward to visiting Switzerland in winter early next year most likely to enjoy country’s local culture.

  1. Indian woman named Businesswoman of the Year in Australia

Twenty-six-year-old Uppma Virdi, an Indian hailing from Punjab and settled in Australia received the ‘Businesswoman of the Year Award’ at the India Australia Business Community Awards held in Sydney. Virdi, a lawyer by profession, is the founder of the start-up ‘Chai Walli’, which sells tea blended with different flavours. She also holds ‘Art of Chai’ workshops in Australia.

  1. Meryl to get lifetime achievement award at Golden Globes

Meryl Streep, regarded as the finest actress of her generation, will get the Golden Globes lifetime achievement award at the annual ceremony in January, organizers announced. Streep, a three-time Oscar winner, will be presented with the Cecil B DeMille award in recognition of her 40 years in the industry.

  1. Rekha to be awarded DIFF Lifetime Achievement Award

Veteran Bollywood actress and Rajya Sabha MP Rekha will be honoured by the upcoming Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) with a Lifetime Achievement Award. She will be honoured for her 40-yearcareer contribution and participation in more than 180 films. The 13th edition of DIFF will run from December 7 to 14 at Madinat Jumeirah. DIFF is an annual film festival held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It was started in year 2004.

  1. Maharashtra becomes first state to launch cyber police stations in all districts

Maharashtra is converting 42 state-of-the-art cyber-crime labs into cyber police stations, as part of the BJP-led government’s strategy to take on cyber criminals. “Maharashtra is the first state in the country which will have a cyber-police station in each district simultaneously,” a top Home Department official said. Cyber-crime in Maharashtra has risen by a whopping 142.1 per cent in the last few years.

  1. India’s first titanium project starts test production in Odisha

The first titanium project of India being established by Saraf Group in Ganjam district of Odisha started its test production. One of its four furnaces became functional for test run director of Saraf Titanium Industry, A. R. Mehta said this titanium plant, which is first of its kind and the only one in the country would be ready for inauguration in next few months.

  1. Paris Agreement on Climate Change enters into force

The Paris Agreement to combat climate change officially entered into force after 55 parties to the convention accounting for at least 55% of total GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions ratified it. The threshold for entry into force of the Paris Agreement was achieved on 5th October 2016. At present, 94 parties have ratified the convention. India was 62nd country to ratify it on 2 October 2016.

8. Earthport gets RBI nod to operate cross border payments service to India

 Earthport Plc, the leading payment network for cross-border transactions, has received the Reserve Bank of India’s permission to provide outbound cross border payment services to banks in India. The approval is part of both RBI and Indian government’s move to facilitate the cross border payments to and from India which is the largest remittance-receiving country in 2015, with an estimated $69 billion.

9. HCC gets relief under RBI’s S4A scheme

 Construction major HCC’s Rs.5,000 crore debt recast has become the first case to get approval of a high-level panel set up under RBI’s new scheme for Sustainable Structuring of Stressed Assets (S4A).  The scheme, which was passed by an ICICI Bank-led joint lender forum in September, has been approved by the RBI- mandated overseeing committee and can be implemented.

10. Telecom Sector Skill Council inks MoU with Taiwan

 Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC), a not-for-profit public-private partnership between National Skill Development Corporation and the industry, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Taiwan to strengthen cooperation in the field of corporate job vacancies and recruitment services post skilling in India and internationally.

11. EU, Canada sign CETA free trade deal

 The EU and Canada signed a free trade deal that was almost derailed by objections from French-speaking Belgians, exposing the difficulties of securing agreement from 28 member states as Britain prepares for Brexit talks. The European commission president, Jean-Claude Juncker, said there was no parallel between the deal struck with Canada and looming Brexit talks.

12. Cibulkova upsets Kerber to win WTA Finals title

 Dominika Cibulkova put on a stunning show of unflappable tennis to upset top-ranked Angelique Kerber 6-3, 6-4 to win the WTA Finals title. The seventh-seeded Cibulkova, making her debut at the WTA Finals this week, picked the right match to win against Kerber during the week.
