Nomadic Elephant – Indo-Mongolia Joint Military Exercise

India and Mongolia have commenced a joint military training exercise called “Nomadic Elephant -2016” in Mongolia. The Indian Army sent platoon-strength soldiers of the Kumaon Regiment to the 11th Indo-Mongolia exercise.

  • The exercise, which will culminate on May 8, aims to develop synergy and inter operatability between the armies to battle in counter insurgency and counter terrorism environment under the UN mandate.
  • A platoon of the Indian Army’s Kumaon Regiment along with a team of two observers will be taking part in the event.
  • From the Mongolian Armed Forces, a total of 60 personnel will take part in the exercise. Both the armies will participate in sporting events and be sharing techniques gained in unarmed combat and specialised rappelling, the statement noted.

The aim of this exercise is to develop synergy and inter operability between the two armies to fight in Counter Insurgency and Counter Terrorism environment under the United Nation mandate.
