NCC Enters Limca Book of Records

NCC or the National Cadet Corps has been presented the certificate by Limca Book of Records for the “Largest Yoga performance” simultaneously by a single uniformed youth organisation (NCC) at multiple venues on International Day of Yoga on 21 Jun 2015. The certificate was presented by Mrs Vijaya Ghose, Editor Limca Book of Records to Lt Gen A Chakravarty in the august presence of Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar. NCC created this record with 9,50,210 NCC cadets performing Yoga simultaneously at 1767 venues pan India on 21 Jun 2015.

The Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar complimented the staff of NCC and all the cadets for their hard work and dedication and said that NCC could play a very crucial role in nation-building by grooming the youth as future leaders. The Director General of NCC Lt Gen A Chakravarty gave an account of NCC activities and said the organisation is truly proud of its achievement of finding a place in the Limca Book of Records.

National Cadet Corps
  • The National Cadet Corps is the Indian military cadet corps with its Headquarters at New Delhi. It is open to school and college students on voluntary basis.
  • NCC was firstly started in 1666 in Germany. The NCC in India was formed with the National Cadet Corps Act of 1948.
  • The origin of NCC can be traced back to the ‘University Corps’, which was created under the Indian Defence Act 1917, with the objective to make up the shortage of the Army.
  • The motto of NCC is ‘Unity & Discipline’ which was adopted on 23 Dec 1957.  The three colours in the flag depict the three services in the Corps, red for Army, deep blue for Navy and light blue for the Air Force.NCC Crest
  • The current NCC Song is “Ham Sabh Bhartiya Hain” . It was written by Haricharan singh Parvana.
Limca Book of Records
  • Limca Book of Records is an annual reference book published in India documenting human and natural world records.
  • Limca Book of Records was first published in 1990, when the Limca soft drink brand was owned by Parle Group.
  • The 26th edition of Limca Book of Records was launched at the Jaipur Literature Festival in January 2015.
