The National Integrated Agriculture Research Centre has been inaugurated by Union Minister of Agriculture Shri Radha Mohan Singh in East Champaran district of Bihar. The institute will be dedicated to the welfare of the farmers in the region. The main objective of the institute will be to conducting research on the development of location specific integrated farming system. The minister also declared that KVKs will be strengthened across the country for accelerating the lab to land programme.
Progressive farmers and entrepreneurs from the region including seven women farmers, who have excelled in cultivation of mushroom, banana cultivation and rice production were felicitated by the Minister.
What is Organic Farming?
- Organic farming system in India is not new and is being followed from ancient time.
- It is a method of farming system which primarily aimed at cultivating the land and raising crops by keeping the soil alive and in good health by use of organic wastes and beneficial microbes.
- Organic farming promotes the sustainable health and productivity of the ecosystem – soil, plants, animals and people.
- Organic food is food that has been grown or processed without synthetic pesticides, chemical fertilizers, irradiation, industrial solvents, or chemical food additives.
- Organic foods are farmed in an environmentally sustainable and socially responsible way, focusing on soil regeneration, water conservation and animal welfare.
