President Pranab Mukherjee has appointed the senior-most Election Commissioner, Dr Nasim Zaidi, as the next Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on 9th April 2015. He will assume the charge of office of the chief election commissioner with effect from April 19, after the incumbent Harishankar Brahma will retire on April 18. Dr Zaidi is the 20th Chief Election Commissioner of India.
Nasim zaidi will have a tenure up to July, 2017 when he attains the age of 65.

- Nasim Zaidi is a retired IAS officer of 1976 batch from the Uttar Pradesh.
- Dr. Zaidi has served as the Permanent Representative of India on the Council of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) from November 2005 to October 2008.

- He retired from IAS as Secretary to the Government of India in Ministry of Civil Aviation on 31 July 2012.
