The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2019, which seeks to hike the penalty for traffic infringement, has been passed by the Rajya Sabha. However, it has been sent to the Lok Sabha with three amendments. The Lower House of the Parliament had earlier cleared the legislation on July 23. The Bill also aims to improve road safety, facilitate citizens in their dealings with transport departments, strengthen rural transport, public transport and last-mile connectivity through automation, computerization and online services.
