Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released a commemorative coin on Swami Chinmayananda Saraswati in New Delhi. The PM has released the coin to mark the birth centenary of Swamiji.
About Swami Chinmayananda Saraswati
- He was born in Ernakulam, Kerala as Balakrishna Menon on 8 May 1916.
- He completed his schooilng and under graduation in Ernakulam itself.
- He went on to Lucknow University (1940–1943) to earn postgraduate degrees in literature and law.
- In the summer of 1936, he visited the eminent sage, Shri Ramana Maharshi. Balan was initiated into sannyasa by Swami Sivananda.
- Chinmayananda is known for teaching Bhagavad gita, the Upanishads, and other ancient Hindu scriptures.
- He died on 3 August 1993, in San Diego, California of United States.
