Merlin is the New king of Purrs

A UK Cat has set a new Guinness World record for the loudest purr by a domestic cat, with its sound measuring almost 68 decibel. This noise is equal to noise of an air conditioner and nearly as loud as a shower.

Merlin is the 13-year-old cat, who was adopted from an animal rescue centre in Kingskerswell by its owner Tracy Westwood and her daughter Alice from Torquay. Merlin registered a purr measuring 67.8 decibels, beating the previous record of smokey which can purr up to 67.68 decibels in 2011.

Many people tend to take care of their cats and dogs like they are their own children. Just as how kids take part in various competitions, pet owners take their pets too. However, there might be chances that your pet might get lost during these contests especially if there are other pets of the similar kind! Many of them make use of Pet Tags and various other accessories to keep a check on their furry creatures.

“Here at Guinness World Records we enjoy coming across your typical everyday pet with a rather unique talent and Merlin the Cat from Torquay is just that,” said GWR spokesman Jamie Clarke.
