Indian boxer M C Mary Kom is all set to add another honour to her glittering career when she receives the ‘Legends Award‘ from the International Boxing Association (AIBA) on its 70th anniversary on December 20. An Olympic bronze-medallist and a five-time world champion, Mary Kom is also a Rajya Sabha MP AIBA is celebrating its 70th Anniversary on December 20 during which it will present the award to Mary Kom.
- Mary Kom is also a multiple-time Asian champion and was named an AIBA brand ambassador during the World Championships earlier this year.
- AIBA has decided to present Mary with this glorious award during a gala dinner ceremony which is to be held in Switzerland on December 20th.
- Mary, who is the first Indian female boxer to make a mark in the sport and to put India up on the boxing charts, is an Olympic Bronze medallist and a five-time World Champion.
International Boxing Association
- The International Boxing Association, originally the Association Internationale de Boxe Amateur and still referred to as the AIBA is a sport organization that sanctions amateur (Olympic-style) boxing matches and awards world and subordinate championships.
- Recently, AIBA has been trying to build its own professional version of boxing, where boxers would retain their Olympic eligibility, through the team tournament league known as World Series of Boxing and AIBA Pro Boxing.
