Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar will inaugurate the Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute at Mohali on July 25. The institute, set up on the line of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute, will impart specialized training to females aspiring to join the National Defence Academy (NDA). Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal took the initiative to establish this institute after the success of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute at Mohali.
What is INDU?
- Indian National Defence University (INDU) is a proposed university of defence of the Government of India which will be established at Binola in Gurgaon, Haryana.
- The principle proposal was accepted by the union cabinet on 13 May 2010, and is expected to be functional by 2018-19.
- The campus will have an area of 200 acres, and the land was acquired by the Haryana government and handed over to the Ministry of Defence in April 2013.
- The University will be instituted by the Act of the Parliament of India, and President of India will be a Visitor, and the Defence Minister will be the Chancellor.
