Maggi noodles back in stores, Nestle India ties up with Snapdeal




Nestle India has relaunched its popular Maggi noodles in India, five months after they were banned due to alleged presence of excessive lead content. Besides, the Swiss food major has partnered with online marketplace Snapdeal for the rollout. The company is presently manufacturing Maggi noodles at three locations – Nanjangud (Karnataka), Moga (Punjab) and Bicholim (Goa).

Nestle India said all samples of Maggi Noodles Masala have been cleared by three National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories-accredited labs as mandated by the Bombay High Court. Commenting on the rollout of Maggi noodles, Suresh Narayan, Chairman and Managing Director of Nestle India, said, “Maggi has a very special relationships and strong emotional bonds with its consumers across the country, and I am confident that our bonds will grow even stronger.”

“Separately, Nestle India is pleased to partner with Snapdeal to roll out online offers to mark this special occasion”, he added.

  • In May 2015, Indian Food Safety Regulators from the State of Uttar Pradesh have claimed that samples of Maggi 2 Minute Noodles were found to contain traces of lead beyond permissible limits and added monosodium glutamate. It is temporary banned in UP.
  • A Test was conducted by Delhi Government and they also found excessive lead in Maggi. Since then Maggi was banned for 15 days in Delhi as well.
  • Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit and Preity Zinta were also dragged in this controversy because all three of them were Brand Ambassador of of Maggi at some point of time. A court in Muzzafarpur Bihar ordered to file an FIR against all three.
  • Some India’s biggest retailers like Future Group, Big Bazaar, Easyday and Nilgiris have imposed a nationwide ban on Maggi.

What is MSG???

  • MSG, or monosodium glutamate is a type of amino-acid found naturally in many agricultural products. It is often added artificially to packaged food to enhance flavour.
  • Native to China, there have been reports of adverse effects of consuming MSG including nausea, upset digestive system, headaches, etc. Symptoms of MSG are collectively called Chinese Restaurant Syndrome (CRS).
