M Venkaiah Naidu has inaugurated the Independence Day Film Festival

Cinema plays an important role in propagating a feeling of ‘patriotism’ and inspirimg the citizens, said Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu while inaugurating the ‘Independence Day Film Festival’ at Siri Fort Auditorium .

  • “Cinema has an important role to create awareness among the people, to propagate patriotism, to inspire the people, to motivate their commitment to the country, and about its unity and integrity,” Naidu told .

                     There are a number of classics like ‘Gandhi’, ‘Shaheed’, ‘Ayirathi Thollayirathi Irupathi Onnu’, ‘Haqueeqat’ and others that have inspired us,” Naidu said while addressing students and dignitaries like Minister Of State for Information & Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore.

  • “Cinema is the best medium of communication because it influences. Cinema production should not only be for entertainment it should also be for education, enlightening the people and motivating the people,
  • The festival which commenced today will conclude on August 18. At least 20 films will be screened during the period.
  • The opening film for the festival is Sir Richard Attenborough’s ‘Gandhi’. The festival is being organized jointly by the Directorate of Film Festivals and the Ministry of Defence.
  • Praising the film, which is a biopic of M K Gandhi, Naidu said the movie brought the attention of the world to India’s freedom movement.

“‘Gandhi’ turned attention of the world to the Indian freedom movement, which was based on non-violence.”

  • Films like ‘Border”, “Lagaan”, “Chak De India”, “Mary Kom” and “Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose” and “I Am Kalam” will also be screened at the festival.
