“Lord of the Rings” Cinematographer Andrew Lesnie Passed Away

Andrew Lesnie, the world famous cinematographer from Australia, who shot all the six Middle-Earth movies (The Lord of the Rings Triology and The Hobbit Trilogy), has died at the age of 59, due to heart attack. Lesnie had worked with many famous directors and he also shot films such as I Am LegendThe Last AirbenderRise of the Planet of the Apes.

Tidbits

  1. Lesnie began his career in 1978 as a camera assistant on the low-budget horror film Patrick. 
  2. He worked as a freelance cameraman for TV station ABC. In 1980 he made a documentary about Arnold Schwarzenegger’s return to bodybuilding in Australia.
  3. He shot many music videos and documentaries in his early career.
  4. Lesnie’s outstanding work on Lord of the Rings had earned him an Oscar Award in 2002.
  5. He was inducted into the Australian Cinematographers Society Hall of Fame. 
  6. Recently Lesnie worked as cinematographer in movie The Water Diviner, the directorial debut of Actor Russell Crowe.
