Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2017: TOP countries to visit are Canada and Colombia

The esteemed list showcases the top 10 countries, cities, regions and best value destinations for next year. Canada came out on top as the best country to visit in 2017, followed closely by Colombia and Finland. It was politics that boosted Canada to number one – namely energetic new Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

A weakened Canadian dollar and a looming 150-year confederation anniversary make the world’s second largest country an ideal place to see next year. Colombia has been celebrated for its forward-thinking vibrant culture and hospitality in place of a violent past marred by civil war.

Finland will celebrate a centenary next year – that coupled with a new national park and a series of snow sport championships will have visitors swarming to the scenic country in 2017.

Dominic, Nepal, Bermuda, Mongolia, Oman, Myanmar and Ethiopia rounded out the top 10 countries. North Wales represented the UK in the top 10 regions to visit in 2017.
