KV Thomas has been renominated as the Chairman of Public Accounts Committee till April, 2016 by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan. Thomas was first nominated in August 2014. He is from Kerala and he is the senior Congress Parliamentarian from Ernakulum Constituency.
Public Accounts Committee (PAC)
- The PAC is constituted every year. The Committee consists a total of 22 members, of which 15 are from Lok Sabha and 7 are from Rajya Sabha.
- A minister cannot be elected to as member of Committee.
- Since 1967, Chairman of PAC is senior member of the main Opposition party.
- The main function of PAC is to examine annual audit reports of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) after they are tabled in Parliament by President.
- The term of the committee does not exceed one year.
