Karnataka, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Goa and Andhra Pradesh are in the forefront of Swachh Bharat campaign, which is related to generating awareness about the Swachh Bharat Mission in urban areas. Under the awareness generation campaign launched, 1,129 urban local bodies from 15 States and UTs have organized quiz contests. Karnataka led the campaign with the participation of 96,524 students in the competition followed by Delhi (47,000), Tamil Nadu (45,650), Madhya Pradesh (45,302), Goa (35,000) and Andhra Pradesh (30,871).
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
- Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) is a national campaign by the GOI, covering 4041 statutory towns, to clean the streets, roads and infrastructure of the country.
- This campaign was officially launched on 2 October 2014 at Rajghat, New Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself cleaned the road.
- It is India’s biggest ever cleanliness drive and 3 million government employees and school and college students of India participated in this event.
- Construction of toilets is one aspect of the Swachh Bharat programme. The programme aims to to make India “open defecation free” by 2019.
- Sachin Tendulkar, Kamalahaasan, Priyanka Chopra, Baba Ramdev, Salman Khan, Anil Ambani are some of the brand ambassadors of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
