Goutam Ghose, Bappi Lahiri conferred Bengal’s ‘Mahanayak Award’

Filmmaker Goutam Ghose and composer-singer Bappi Lahiri were on Saturday conferred the West Bengal’s “Mahanayak Samman” awards. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee conferred the Mahanayak Samman for best director on Ghose, known for helming National Award winning films like “Sankhachil” and “Abar Aranye”.

NSE revamps board;appoints Mohandas Pai, 2 others as directors

Top stock exchange NSE has revamped its board, appointing three new public interest directors including chairman of Manipal Global Education Services and Infosys former director Mohandas Pai.

Besides, former Secretary at the Ministry of Corporate Affairs Naved Masood and KPMG India’s former Deputy Chief Executive Dinesh Kanabar have been included on NSE’s board as public interest directors.

RBI imposes penalty of Rs 5 cr on Bank of Baroda

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a penalty of Rs 5 crore on Bank of Baroda (BoB) after it found irregularities in the Rs 6,100-crore scam that was unearthed last year. “The Reserve Bank of India has imposed a penalty of INR 50 million on Bank of Baroda… Pursuant to the internal audit of the Bank of Baroda, the Reserve Bank of India and investigative agencies in October 2015 were advised by the Bank of certain irregularities observed,” Bank of Baroda said in a BSE filing.  Shares of Bank of Baroda were trading 1.92% at Rs 153.80 apiece on the BSE.

India’s first Green Rail Corridor launched in Tamil Nadu

The 114-km-long Manamadurai– Rameswaram stretch of Southern Railway became India’s first ‘Green corridor’ after Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu dedicated the section through videoconferencing from Chennai Central Station.

After the Minister dedicated the section as part of Indian Railway’s commitment to clean environment, Divisional Railway Manager (Madurai) Sunil Kumar Garg unveiled a plaque, marking the dedication, at a simple function here.

‘Ride for Accessibility’ rally kicks off in New Delhi

In continuation to various sensitization campaigns run by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), a Motorcycle Rally ‘Ride 4 Accessibility’ is being organized  in Delhi .
The Rally, which will include about 500 young men and women motorcycle riders will be flagged off at India Gate by Shri Prakash Javadekar, Minister for Human Resource Development and Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Science. Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment will preside over the function.

Maharashtra CM launches pilot project of e-complaint system

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis flagged off a pilot e-complaint project by the Pune Police which enables citizens to file a police complaint from home.

Mr. Fadnavis launched the project by filing an e- complaint with a police station in Nagpur and the concerned police station acknowledged the same within minutes. He launched the project while presiding over the 14th Maharashtra State Police Duty Meet 2016 held at SRPF Grounds in Ramtekdi, Pune.

Kerala Government launches first ever Water Metro project in the country

Kerala Government has launched Kochi Water Metro project, the first ever Water Metro project in the country.It was launched by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Kochi, Kerala.

 Project aim to provide water connectivity to people living between islands in the Kochi agglomeration area and the city.

Neeraj Chopra becomes 1st Indian to set world record in Jr athletics Championship

Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra created history by becoming the first Indian athlete to become a world champion when he won a gold medal at  the IAAF World under-20 athletics championship in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Chopra created a new U-20 world record by throwing the javelin a distance of 86.48m. The 18-year-old from Khandra village in Haryana’s Panipat district broke the old mark of 84.69 metres held by Latvian Zigismunds Sirmais by nearly two metres.

Foundation stone laid for MSME technology center in Visakhapatnam

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, along with Union Ministers Kalraj Mishra and Venkaiah Naidu laid the foundation of Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises technology centre at Pudi in Visakhapatnam district.

The Centre has decided to locate a world-class technology centre with an investment of up to Rs. 140 crore.

PM to flag off ‘Run for Rio’ event at India Gate in New Delhi on 31st July

In order to create ‘Olympic Fever’ in the country ahead of next month’s multi-sporting spectacle in Brazil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off ‘Run for Rio’ event at India Gate in New Delhi on July 31

This was announced by Minister of State (I/C) for Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Vijay Goel at a press conference

Nepal Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli resigns

Nepal’s Prime Minister, Khadga Prasad Oli, has resigned from his post just minutes before facing a no confidence vote he was expected to lose. A change in government is nothing new in Nepal, with Oli the eighth prime minister in the past 10 years.

Oli,  was forced to quitafter allies of his multi-party coalition deserted the government, accusing him of not honouring power sharing deals that helped install him as prime minister nine months ago.

Indian shooter Manavaditya Rathore clinch Bronze in Junior World Cup in Italy

Promising Indian shooter Manavaditya Rathore won the trap bronze medal in the ‘Champion of Champions’ match at the Junior World Cup in Porpetto, Italy.

While Manavaditya, son of Athens Olympics silver medallist Col Rajyavardhan Rathore, won the bronze in trap event,and  Anant Naruka has also bagged a bronze in skeet.

OBITUARY

Legendary Indian Modernist SH Raza Dead at 94

The Indian artist Syed Haider Raza has died at the age of 94. He passed away in a New Delhi hospital. He was a great legend that the 20th century has produced,” poet and former chairman of the Lalit Kala Akademi. Artist Saiyed Haider Raza was honoured with the highest french award- The Legion of Honour in 2015. He was also received Padma Vibhushan in 2013 and Padma Bhushan in 2007. His work was recognised with the introduction of ‘Bindu’ released in 1980, which is a closer look at the Indian culture. It gave an Indian vision all his work and a deeper aspect of art.
