Dr. Sanjiv Misra appointed as AD and NE (part time) Chairman at Axis Bank

Mumbai-headquartered, Axis Bank has stated that the Reserve Bank of India has granted approval for appointment of Dr.Sanjiv Misra as Additional Director and the Non-Executive (Part-Time) Chairman of the bank for a period of three years with effect from July 18, 2016, up to July 17, 2019 .Dr. Sanjiv Mishra was earlier the SUUTI ( special under stading of UTI) nominee on board as Non-Executive Chairmen till May 11, 2016.

Federal Bank ties up with Reliance Jio Money

Federal Bank is launching a one-click payment service jointly with Reliance Jio Money. The two entities have signed an agreement under which Reliance Jio Money’s mobile wallet application, which is to be launched shortly,will have a direct payment option for Federal Bank customers. Through this service, the bank’s customers can complete a transaction without funding the wallet as they will get a facility to directly pay from their account for the services offered through the wallet.

HDFC ERGO enters into bancassurance tie-up with SVC Bank

HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company and Shamrao Vithal Co-operative (SVC) Bank today announced their bancassurance agency partnership to provide range of non-life insurance offerings to the customers of the bank. The partnership combines HDFC ERGO’s experience in introducing innovative non-life insurance products with SVC Bank’s customer base across various states.

CCEA approves 1,980 MW Ghatampur thermal power project

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) granted its approval to set up a 1,980 MW thermal power project at Ghatampur in Uttar Pradesh at an estimated cost of Rs 17,237.80 crore  including interest during construction component of Rs 3,202.42 crore. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its approval for installation of Ghatampur Thermal Power Project (GTPS) of 1,980 MW (3 X 660 MW) capacity through a joint venture company named Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Ltd formed jointly by Neyveli Lignite Corporation and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam.

Cabinet approves incorporation of Sagarmala Development company under Companies Act

The Cabinet  approved the incorporation of Sagarmala Development Company (SDC) under the companies Act 2013, with an initial authorized share capital of 1 thousand crore rupees and a subscribed share capital of Rs. 90 Crore. and  that it will be under the administrative control of the Shipping ministry.

The cabinet said that the implementation of the identified projects will be taken up by the relevant ports, State Governments, Maritime Boards, Central Ministries, mainly through private or the Public Private Partnership mode.

Karnataka Bank’s solar initiative for rural students

Karnataka Bank Ltd has initiated a programme to provide solar lights in the non-electrified houses of students in rural areas. MS Mahabaleshwara, Chief General Manager of the bank, told Business Line that the bank, in association with the Manipal-based non-governmental organisation Bharatiya Vikas Trust (BVT), has taken up this initiative under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

BCCI conducts ‘English language and communication skills’

The Cricket Board (BCCI)has commenced a course for umpires on English language and communication skills as part of its educational and development programme for the match officials.

The first batch underwent training from July 12 to 16 and the second commenced in Mumbai and would continue till July 23, the BCCI has announced on its website.

Covering Railway Stations Under CCTV Surveillance

Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) were provided at 344 railway stations over Indian Railways. Railways have further planned to install Video Surveillance System (VSS) at 1000 stations under Nirbhaya Fund.

Total estimated cost of VSS chargeable to Nirbhaya Fund stands at Rs – 500 crore. Installation of CCTV cameras also forms part of Integrated Security System (ISS) and total estimated cost at 202 stations stands at Rs 252.76 crore.

Startup India States Conference to be held in New Delhi

The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) is organizing a day-long conference on Startup India in New Delhi today with an aim To improve ease of doing business,

Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said a start-up would now need only a certificate of recognition from the government to avail IPR-related benefits. Earlier ,a budding entrepreneur had to go through an elaborate process of approaching an inter-ministerial board to procure the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) benefits

Judicial panel to set Puri temple in order

WITH recurrence of unruly affairs at Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri creating serious public outrage, the Odisha Government on Thursday constituted a one-man judicial commission to suggest reforms in its management. The commission will be headed by retired judge of Orissa  High Court Justice  Bimal Prasad Das. He would be   assisted by former temple administrator Mahimohan Tripathy.

Delhi hosts ‘Made in Afghanistan’ conference to boost bilateral trade

A conference titled ‘Made in Afghanistan’ was recently held in Delhi to promote Afghan products and boost trade relations between both nations.

Made in Afghanistan: Harnessing the Economic Potential was the theme of two-day long event held to strengthen India-Afghan relations in terms of trade, commerce and investment opportunities.

India, Japan ink Social Security Agreement

India and Japan signed a social security agreement expected to come into force on 1 October ,2016 and benefit thousands of Indian and Japanese professionals and skilled workers working in the two countries.

The pact will help avoid double social security contributions, the statement said. In other words, an Indian worker on a short-term contract in Japan will be exempt from making a social security contribution there.The same applies to Japanese workers in India.

WB CM Mamata Banerjee to visit Italy, Germany for foreign funds

To attract foreign investment in the state, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will go on a four-day visit to Italy and Germany in September.

Two apex chambers of commerce and industry from Germany have invited Banerjee to go with a business delegation, while the Mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi has invited her for a special reception, state finance minister Amit Mitra said.

Keni Harrison breaks 28-year-old world hurdles

American Keni Harrison broke a 28-year-old world record in the 100m hurdles, clocking 12.20 seconds at the London Anniversary Games.

Harrison, was already the fastest woman in the world this year, but will not be at next month’s Olympics after finishing only sixth in the US trials. The previous world record of 12.21 had stood since 1988 and was held by Yordanka Donkova of Bulgaria. Harrison’s compatriots finished 2-4 behind her, with U.S. Olympic Trials champion Brianna Rollins coming in at 12.57, and Rollins’s fellow Olympic teammates Kristi Castlin and Nia Ali finishing in 12.59 and 12.63, respectively.
