World Bank appoints Paul Romer as Chief Economist
World Bank President Jim Yong Kim announced that American economist Paul Romer will succeed Kaushik Basu as Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank . Romer’s appointment will be effective from September this year.
Romer is currently a professor at New York University (NYU) and director of NYU’s Marron Institute of Urban Management. The World Bank is an international financial institution that provides loans to developing countries for capital programs. It comprises two institutions: the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), and the International Development Association (IDA) .

Malcolm Turnbull sworn in as new Australian prime minister
Malcolm Turnbull was sworn in as the prime minister of Australia for 2nd term following a narrow election victory on July 2. Turnbull’s Liberal/National coalition got 76 seats and had potentially one more in the 150-seat House of Representatives.
Malcolm Turnbull was sworn in as the 29th Prime Minister of Australia on 15 September 2015.He was elected to Federal Parliament as the Member for Wentworth in 2004.

Odisha-born bureaucrat appointed chairman of AAI
An Odisha-born bureaucrat Guruprasad Mohapatra has been appointed the chairman of Airports Authority of India (AAI).
The 1986 batch Gujarat cadre officer served as commissioner of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation for over three years and was appointed Joint secretary in Union Ministry of Commerce after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister. After about two years of his tenure as Joint secretary, he was appointed the chairman of AAI.

At a time when the country is waiting to know who will succeed Raghuram Rajan as the Reserve Bank of India Governor, his predecessor Duvvuri Subbarao’s memoirs, revealing a turbulent relationship with two Finance Ministers of the time — P. Chidambaram and Pranab Mukherjee .
Duvvuri Subbarao was born on 11 August 1949 ,is an Indian Economist, Central Banker and Civil Servant. He was the 22nd Governor of Reserve Bank of India, served under Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh.

Centre has released Rs 28,022 cr. under MGNREGA
The Centre has released 28,000 crore so far this year to States under MGNREGA to clear the last year’s liabilities and for running the programme in the ongoing year, For ensuring timely payment of wages, the centralgovernment has started National Electronic Fund ManagementSystem (NeFMS) in 11 states,
Under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA), funds are released to the States on the basis of agreed to labour budget and performance of the States.

Government of India and ADB Sign US $ 100 Million Loan for ‘Climate Adaptation in Vennar Subbasin of Cauvery Delta project’ in Tamil Nadu
The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a USD 100 million loan for ‘Climate Adaptation in Vennar Subbasin of Cauvery Delta project’ in Tamil Nadu.The financing will be used to strengthen embankments of six major irrigation water channels in the Vennar system and rehabilitate 13 irrigation pumping schemes.
The Cauvery river basin is a critical source of water for agriculture, both within Tamil Nadu and neighbouring states. The vast majority of the delta’s population is engaged in farming and fishing.

Indian Warships visit Port Kelang, Malaysia
In a demonstration of India’s ‘Act East’ policy and Indian Navy’s increasing footprint and operational reach, Indian Naval Ships Sahyadri, Shakti and Kirch under the Command of the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, Rear Admiral S V Bhokare, YSM, NM have arrived at Port Kelang on a four day visit, as part of deployment of the Eastern Fleet to the South China Sea and Western Pacific.
The visiting INDIAN ships are likely to conduct exercises with the Royal Malaysian Navy, aimed at enhancing interoperability in communication as well as Search and Rescue procedures, post departure from Port Kelang.

Tata Advanced Systems signs deal with Bell Helicopter
Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) and US-based Bell Helicopter agreed to jointly develop the helicopter market in India, including potential production and assembly, training, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), research and development (R&D) and technology sharing.
The agreement seeks to support of India’s aviation and defence modernization initiatives with an emphasis on ‘Make in India’.

Maharastra CM launches virtual, digital classrooms across 32 ITIs in state
The Indian education sector is now in a state of transition, in this phase of transition, on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day(15th july), Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched the new facilities of virtual and digital classrooms across 32 ITIs in the state.
The Chief Minister also announced an initiative to make these classrooms and course content 3D enabled and use of simulators to give hands-on training to youths. Newly-inducted Minister for Skill Development and Labour Sambhaji Patil Nilangekar was also present at the event, held in suburban Andheri.
