Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar in Forbes list of world’s 100 highest-paid celebrities
Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar are the two Indians to have made it to the ‘World’s 100 Highest-Paid Celebrities‘ list, released by Forbes .
The annual Celebrity 100 ranking includes global talent from across entertainment, media and sports, with over one-third of the celebrities from outside the US.

Ashok Patnaik appointed new National Intelligence Grid chief
Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Ashok Patnaik, who is also the son-in-law of former prime minister Manmohan Singh, was appointed as the CEO of National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID), an ambitious intelligence gathering mechanism conceived in the wake of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
He will be effective from the date of assumption of charge of the post upto December 31, 2018 — the date of his retirement on superannuation or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He will succeed Raghu Raman, the first CEO of NATGIRD ended in June 2015. The post was under the additional charge of former special secretary Ashok Prasad till January 2016.

Indian-American Dr. Kinshuk named US university Dean
The University of North Texas College of Information (UNT) has named Dr.Kinshuk, who goes by a single name, and a former alumni of the University of Rajasthan, as its new dean. Kinshuk is formerly the associate dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology at Athabasca University in Alberta, Canada ,since2010.
Dr. Kinshuk brings with him great leadership and research experience,” said Finley Graves, provost and vice president for academic affairs at UNT, in a statement. “We look forward to Dr. Kinshuk working with our faculty to articulate a clear vision for the future of the College of Information.”

Murthy new CMD of Jute Corporation
K.V.R. Murthy has taken over as chairman-cum-managing director of the Jute Corporation of India Ltd,Murthy was earlier associated with Eastern Railways in the capacity of Chief Commercial Manager. PTI BSM DKB JM MKJ. His appointment is for a period of 5 years or till the date of his superannuation, whichever is earlier.

SBI signs MoU with IIT Bombay to promote startups
India’s top public sector bank, State Bank of India, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), (IIT) Bombay’s technology business incubator, to promote innovation by startups in the financial sector. As per the MoU, the bank will provide a platform for testing/piloting financial products/applications of FinTech startups that will be identified by both parties.

Operation ‘Sankat Mochan’ launched to evacuate Indian citizens from South Sudan
Ministry of External Affairs launches operation “sankat mochan” to evacuate Indian nationals from war torn South Sudan. General VK Singh heading operation as two C-17 military transport aircrafts to South Sudan’s capital city Juba to evacuate over 300 Indians stranded there.
He is accompanied by Secretary Amar Sinha, JS Satbir Singh and Director Anjani Kumar. The Indian Ambassador in South Sudan Srikumar Menon and his team is organising the operation on the ground.

INS Karna commissioned by Navy chief
The Navy’s dedicated base for its Special Operation Forces – MARCOS (Marine Commandos) – INS Karna was commissioned here by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba. The commissioning ceremony was held at Naval Establishment INS Kalinga near Bheemunipatnam port in Vizag.
Keeping with the Navy traditions the commissioning plaque of the shore establishment was unveiled by Reena Lanba, wife of Admiral Lanba, in the presence of Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Lanba, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command Vice Admiral HCS Bisht and Commanding Officer Designate INS Karna Captain Varun Singh.

Najma Heptulla, G M Siddeshwara resign from Modi Cabinet
Minority Affairs Minister Najma Heptulla and GM Siddeswara, Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises,who had crossed 75 years,have been dropped from the Union council of ministers. With these two resignations, the strength of the council of ministers is now 76. The number of ministers cannot exceed 82. Heptulla is the 1st Cabinet minister to have been dropped in the two-year term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led council of ministers.

Direct Bus Service Between Pokhara-New Delhi Launched
New Delhi and Nepal’s famous tourist spot Pokhara are now connected by road after a direct bus service was launched between the two cities, following the signing of an agreement during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit here in 2014.
The first direct bus service was flagged off by Nepal Home Minister Shakti Bahadur Basnet and India’s ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae from Pokhara.

Bangladesh, India sign Rampal power plant construction agreement
Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company (Pvt) Limited (BIFPCL) signed the agreement for Main Plant EPC (Turnkey) Package with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).
Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Ltd (BIFPCL)’s Managing Director Ujjal Kanti Bhattacharya and representative of BHEL Prem Paul Jadhav signed the agreement for the construction of a 1,320 megawatt coal fired power plant, the biggest project under bilateral cooperation that would mark the transition from electricity export to generation level.

OBITUARY
William H McNeill, prize-winning world historian, dead at 98
William H McNeill, an award-winning world historian and author, has died in Torrington, Connecticut, at age 98. His death was confirmed by Steve Koppes, associate news director at the University of Chicago, where McNeill was a professor emeritus.
William Hardy McNeill (born October 31, 1917) was a Canadian-American world historian and author, particularly noted for his writings on Western civilization. He was Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Chicago where he has taught since 1947. He was the father of historian J. R. McNeill with whom he co-authored The Human Web: A Bird’s-eye View of World History.
