Joe Root and Charlotte Edwards named England’s cricketers of the year 2014-15

Joe Root and Charlotte Edwards have been named England men’s and women’s cricketers of the year respectively for 2014-15 by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

Joe Root, 24, has scored 1,135 Test runs at an average of nearly 95 over the past one year. He also hit three one-day international centuries. James Anderson, Moeen Ali and Gary Ballance are other nominees of this award.

Charlotte Edwards, the Women’s Captain, had another excellent year to celebrate. She averaged above 75 in ODIs and nearly 60 in Twenty20 internationals over the past 12 months. She played a key role behind England’s ODI series victories against India & New Zealand and also  T20 series wins against South Africa and New Zealand. Sarah Taylor, Heather Knight, and Anya Shrubsole are other shortlisted players.

The other Award winners are,

  • Lancashire’s right-arm seamer Saqib Mahmood – England Development Programme Cricketer of the Year award
  • Luke Sugg from England’s Visually Impaired team – Disability Cricketer of the Year.
