J Manjula becomes DRDO’s first Woman Director General (Electronics and Communication Systems cluster)

The Defence Research and Development Organisation, India’s top defence technology research and development centre, has appointed J Manjula as the Director General, Electronics and Communication Systems cluster. She has assumed charge from distinguished scientist and Director General Dr KD Nayak, who was holding Additional charge as Director General, Electronic & Communication Systems, DRDO.

Manjula has the honour of being the first woman Director General of DRDO cluster. She has been leading Defence Avionics Research Establishment (DARE), an establishment of DRDO, as a Director since July 2014. Manjula is an alumna of Osmania University and a practising electronics and communications engineer.

Her specialisation includes configuration of communication and radar ESM and ECM systems. Ms. Manjula has been conferred the DRDO award for performance excellence, the Scientist of the Year award for 2011 and the India Today Woman Summit award for 2014.

The over 55-year old DRDO in heirarchy has a Director General, S Christopher (appointed a few months ago) and 7 DGs heading various clusters.
