Ace Indian mountaineer Malli Mastan Babu who went missing in the Andes mountains on March 24 during a climbing mission has been found dead. His dead body was recovered in the Andes Mountains between Argentina and Chile. His death was announced on the “Rescue Malli Mustan Babu” page set up on Facebook by his friends and well-wishers. “Mountains retained its favourite child..R.I.P. Malli Mastan Babu,” said a message posted on the page.

1. The 40-year-old Babu was a top Indian mountaineer, having achieved the feat of becoming the “fastest seven summiteer” in the world (172 days in 2006, during which he climbed seven summits on seven days of the week in each calendar month).
2. He was also the first Indian to summit Mt. Vinson Massif, the tallest peak in Antarctica and the first person from Andhra Pradesh to conquer the Everest.
3. He was an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur and IIM Kolkata.
