Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu has release the 50000th Coach manufactured by Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai via video conferencing. The Minister also announced Rs 5 lakh reward for ICF staff for attaining the milestone of rolling out 50,000th coach. ICF has achieved the distinction of being the only coach manufacturer in the World to have manufactured 50000 coaches.

The Minister said when in future we release 1,00,000th coach, we expect it to be the most modern coach going even beyond our present imagination. Indian Railway has signed an MOU with National Institute of Design (NID) to improve internal design of the coaches for better comfort and convenience of the passengers.

• Integral Coach Factory (ICF) is an Indian manufacturer of rail coaches located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
• ICF was set up in 1955. The factory has been manufacturing conventional coaches aproximately 1,500 a year.
• ICF manufactures various types of AC and non-AC coaches including EMUs (Electrical Multiple Units) and DEMU (Diesel Electrical Multiple Units), Metro coaches for Kolkata Metro.
• ICF also exports railway coaches to other countries.
