Indian film ‘Zubaan’ opens 20th Busan film festival

Indian film ‘Zubaan’ opened the 20th edition of Busan Film Festival in South Korea. More than 5,000 filmmakers, entertainers and fans are attending the 10-day fastival. A total of 302 films from 75 countries including 94 world premiers and celebrations spanning 10-days with a rich line-up of films and celebrities from Asia and beyond the 20th edition of Busan International Film Festival kicked-off in Busan.

What is unique about this edition is that, for the first time an Indian movie opened the film festival Zubaan – a coming-of-age musical drama- by debutant director Mozez Singh follows the story of a young Sikh who finds his way in life through music.

Busan film festival has prided itself on identifying the filmmakers who have helped spur the industry’s growth in the region and on championing the cause of independent Asian cinema. This year the festival celebrates it 20th anniversary with programs such as Asian Cinema 100- a list that features the best of Asian Cinema.

‘Tokyo Story’, by Japanese filmmaker Yasujiro Ozu tops the list. Satyajit Ray’s ‘The Apu Trilogy’, Japanese film maker Akira Kurosawa’s two films – ‘Rashomon’ and ‘Seven Samurai’ also figure among the top 10 best films of Asia.

The film festival will close on 10th of October with the Chinese drama ‘Mountain Cry’ directed by larry yang. More than 5,000 filmmakers, entertainers and fans gathered at the Busan Cinema Centre for the opening ceremony of the film festival.
