Indian-American boy Karan Jerath wins prestigious young scientist award

Karan Jerath, an Indian-American boy of 18 years old, has won the eminent Intel Foundation Young Scientist Award in the United States. He has been presented with this award for inventing a device that shuts down the undersea oil spills in a speedy manner. Karan Jerath has packeted a sum of USD 50,000 at the 2015 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (IISEF), held in Pittsburgh.

The top prize worth USD 75000 has won by Raymond Wang, who developed a sophisticated software to analyze the flow of air inside aircraft cabins. Nicole Ticea, 16, won USD 50000 for developing a technique which can be used to detect HIV infection quickly.

A total of seventeen students from India were selected for the IISEF from the National Science Fair. Of them, nine students won award in different categories, which include Physics, biochemistry, mathematics, behavioral sciences, and environmental engineering.

Mansi Aggarwal, Ravi Pradip, Arsh Shah Dilbagi, Harshit Jindal, Aditya Bhargava, and Komal S are the winners from Indian schools.
