Indian Air Force is organizing an Ultra Marathon

Indian Air Force is organizing an Ultra Marathon from Air Force Station Pathankot to Air Force Station Hindon covering a distance of around 574 Km in 11 days on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of 1965 Indo-Pak war. A total of Seven air warriors will be participating in this unique endeavour, covering on an average 60 Km per day. The participants are,

  2. Gp Capt Arvind Tripathi
  3. Sqn Ldr S Gayathri
  4. Fg Offr S Dixit
  5. Sgt GB Mishra
  6. Sgt AK Yadav
  7. Cpl M Bishnoi

The team will be flagged off by Air Cmde JS Dhamoon VSM, AOC, Pathankot on 09 Sep 15 and the expedition will culminate at AF Stn Hindon on 19 Sep 15.

1965 Indo-Pak War
  • The Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 saw the Indian and Pakistani Air Forces engaged in large-scale aerial combat against each other for the first time since the independence of Pakistan in 1947.
  • The war started following Pakistan’s Operation Gibraltar, which was designed to infiltrate forces into Jammu and Kashmir to precipitate an insurgency against rule by India.
  • The seventeen-day war caused thousands of casualties on both sides and also witnessed the largest tank battle since World War II.
  • The Tashkent Declaration of 10 January 1966 was a peace agreement between India and Pakistan after the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965.
