India wins a silver at the Asian Beach Games

India added another medal in the 5th Asian Beach Games with Harish Banghel winning a silver in the men’s middleweight Muay Thai event . Banghel lost to Zhang Yongkang of China in the final of 71-75kg category to settle for a silver.

Muay Thai is a combination of boxing and martial arts originated in Thailand. India had opened their medal account with Pinky Balhara bagging a bronze in kurash.India has a contingent of 208 members in the 5th Asian Beach Games.

 The athletes will participate in 13 disciplines which include Swimming, Kabaddi, Handball, Kurash, Pencak Silat, Sambo, Ju-Jitsu, Woodball, Sepaktakraw, Pentaque, Shuttlecock, Voninam and Muay Thai. In the previous edition held in 2014 in Phuket, India had won two gold, a silver and seven bronze medals.

Asian Beach Games
The Fifth Asian Beach Games will be held in Danang, Vietnam. It will be the second time for Vietnam to host an Asia level multi-sports event, after Hanoi held Asian Indoor Games (2009) and Southeast Asian Games (2003). However, this is the first time that an event will not be held in Hanoi.
