India-Bangladesh to sign pact on Internet connectivity soon

India and Bangladesh will soon join hands through an agreement for Internet connectivity through the International-Gateway. “The Internet connectivity agreement through the International-Gateway will be signed hopefully sometime by May 27,” Chief General Manager Telecom said. All BSF outposts along the Indo-Bangla border of Meghalaya would soon be equipped with high-tech optical fibres to improve the connectivity.

BSNL delegation would be visiting Dhaka and would sign the agreement, and some other project related to voice connectivity will also be proposed. Singh seeked the support of the state government to provide power lines for laying of optical fibre in the Garo Hills region.

This will ensure connectivity from state headquarters to Garo Hills and due to poor electricity power 45 per cent of the towers in rural areas of Meghalaya remained non-functional.
