The Brigade Commander-level flag meeting between the Indian Army and Pakistani Army was held at Chakkan-Da-Bagh Cross LoC point in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. Field commanders from both countries discussed the volatile situation prevailing along the Line of Control, which has arisen due to the recent unprecedented spurt in incidents of ceasefire violations.
The Indian side, apart from emphasizing the need for maintaining ceasefire agreement, is expected to take up the issue of infiltration of militants from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir with the support of Pakistani Army.
Pakistani troops have violated the ceasefire 23 times already this month, shelling Indian civilian and military positions using 120 mm and 82 mm mortars, rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons. The flag meeting is organized nearly a week after both the BSF and Rangers at their Director General-level meeting in Delhi agreed to end hostilities on the international border in Jammu and Kashmir.
Eleven people have so far died and over three dozen others injured during firing and mortar shelling by Pakistan on areas along the international border and LoC in Jammu and Kashmir after a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharief at Ufa (Russia) in July 2015.
