Defense news in july and August
- India’s 1st totally indigenous designed and built Torpedo launch and Recovery Vessel (TRV), INS Astradharani was commissioned into Indian Navy at Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh as an advanced replacement of INS Astravahini which was decommissioned in July, 2015.
- On 8th October 2015, Indian Air Force (IAF) celebrated its 83rd Foundation day at the Hindon Air Force Station in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh to increase the awareness about the importance of IAF as an important part of the national security. Cricket Legend Sachin Tendulkar who is the 1st sportsperson to be designated the post of Honorary Group Captain of IAF in 2010 was also present at the ceremony.
- Third edition of India-Sri Lanka Joint Training Exercise Mitra Shakti – 2015 concluded on 12th October 2015 at Aundh Military Camp in Pune, Maharashtra. This 14 days of joint training started on 29th September to uphold the values of Peace, Prosperity and Stability in the South Asia region.
- On 13th October 2015, India, US and Japan navies started the 2015 Malabar Naval Exercise of the eastern coast in Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean as a part of the annual series of exercises conducted to advance multi-national maritime relationships and mutual security issues between the countries.
- Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar renamed the DRDO’s Missile Complex in Hyderabad as Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Missile Complex on 15th October 2015 to mark the 84th birth anniversary of the missile man Dr. Kalam.
- The 5th edition of joint military exercise of India – China HAND-IN-HAND 2015 started on 12th October 2015 at Kunming Military Academy of Yunnan province in China to broaden and strengthen inter-operability and cooperation between armies of both the countries. It will conclude on 23rd October 2015.
