IFFI showing movies for visually impaired

The International Film Festival of India is showing movies for the visually impaired, with special audio described technology. Three films that are being screened at the festival in Goa under the Accessible India Campaign are Gandhi, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Dhanak.

  • The festival is conducted jointly by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Directorate of Film Festivals and the Government of Goa.
  • Allama is the only Indian film competing for the prestigious award. The remaining seven are from Canada, Spain, Iran, Turkey, Israel, The Netherlands and Latvia. All 8 films are being screened at the ongoing IFFI in Panaji, Goa.
  • National award winning filmmaker TS Nagabharana, Kannada film Allama is a historical film based on the life of the 12th century mystique saint Allama Prabhu.
  • The foreign films nominated for the award include ‘The Apology’ from Canada, ‘Beluga’ from Iran, ‘Harmonia’ from Israel and ‘The Family’ from Spain.
  • The ICFT UNESCO Gandhi Award will be given to a film that best reflects Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of peace, tolerance and non-violence. The Award will be announced at the closing ceremony of IFFI.

The 1st edition of IFFI was organised by the Films Division, Government of India, with the patronage of the first Prime Minister of India. Held in Mumbai from 24 January to 1 February 1952.
