Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has inaugurated a national conference on anti-human trafficking in the national capital. The day-long conference is being organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs along with key stake-holders like state nodal officers for anti-human trafficking, officers of anti-human trafficking units set up in various districts, other stakeholders like ministries or departments, NGOs and experts in the field of anti-human trafficking.
Issues and challenges relating to anti- human trafficking and ways and means to curb the menace more effectively were discussed. Several individuals and organization were awarded on the occasion for outstanding work in this regard.
On the occasion, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the government is putting in efforts to strengthen the Anit-Human Trafficking Unit with the support of the state govts. It is to be noted in the series, the government carried out a sustained campaign titled “Operation Muskaan” throughout the country in July, 2015, to rescue the missing children and reunite them with their families.
“Operation Muskaan” was launched following the success of “Operation Smile” which was launched throughout the country for a month in January, 2015. A total of over 19,000 missing children were rescued during these two operations.
