Reeling under acute shortage of doctors, the Haryana government has decided to increase their retirement age in the state from 58 to 65 years. The decision was taken after a meeting between Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Health Minister Anil Vij along with officials of the health department.
The state government, earlier this year, had sent a proposal to the Centre for enhancing the retirement age of doctors to 62. However, after the Centre decided to increase the retirement age of doctors to 65 years, a similar proposal was mooted by Haryana. The demand was also raised by the Haryana Civil Medical Services
Association(HCMSA).

The members even went on a strike to press for their demand and had even threatened to go on a stir again if the government does not take a decision.

Vij  said that in the past five years around 270 doctors have retired. “They would also be given a chance to apply for re-employment. The financial implications of the proposal will be worked out,”

Amid this development, the doctors association has decided to go ahead with their call for a mass casual leave on October 25 and an indefinite strike from October 26 onwards if all their demands are not met.
