Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on 12 November, appointed a three-member panel to probe into the financial irregularities of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA). This is to follow up on the Delhi Police and CBI’s registered cases against the wrongdoings of the DDCA.
The committee, headed by Principal Secretary of Vigilance Department Chetan Sanghi, has been asked to examine complaints of financial fraud and structural irregularities in DDCA among others. The probe committee comprises secretary in the sports department Punya Salila Srivastava and Delhi governments senior Standing Counsel member Rahul Mehra. Recently, former Indian captain Bishan Singh Bedi and Madan Lal had met Kejriwal and requested him to intervene in “cleaning up” DDCA.
Whar are the steps taken??
- Kejriwal has set a 24-hour deadline to clear the DDCA mess.
- The CM has further asked the Sports Secy and Urban Development Secy in Delhi government to file the report.
- Gautam Gambhir met Kejriwal on November 12 to help in the probe.
- As things stand, the DDCA is in danger of losing the fourth and final Test match against South Africa that is scheduled to take place from 3 to 7 December.
- The BCCI had earlier set a 17 November deadline for putting things in order.
- The DDCA owes around Rs 24 crore to Delhi government as entertainment tax.
- The Delhi government has been pushing DDCA to pay the amount as soon as possible.
- (Manish) Sisodia has asked the probe committee to submit its report by Saturday.
- The DDCA committee will examine complaints received – financial fraud, structural irregularities among others.
