Gopichand’s daughter Gayatri creates history at All India Junior Badminton tournament

Gayatri, just 12 years of age, has created history by becoming the youngest player to win two U-17 girls doubles titles. P Gayatri has badminton in her genes. She is a daughter of chief national coach and former All-England badminton champion Pullela Gopichand and former India champ PVV Lakshmi.

The ONGC Sidcul All India Junior (U-17 and U-19) Ranking Badminton tournament was held at Dehradun.  Gayatri and her partner Vaishnavi Reddy Jakka defeated Ritika Thaker and Simran Singhi to clinch the U-17 girls doubles title.

It was the second All India title for Gayatri and Vaishnavi. On November 11, 2014 at Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, the talented duo had entered the record books with their maiden U-17 girls doubles crown.

  • Pullela Gopichand is a former Indian badminton Player.
  • He won the All England Open Badminton Championships in 2001, becoming the second Indian to achieve this feat after Prakash Padukone.
  • He runs his own Academy which is as known as Gopichand Badminton Academy.
  • He received the Dronacharya Award in 2009 and Arjuna Award in 1999.
