Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot has revealed that the Centre was planning to introduce special identity cards for all persons with disabilities. It would enable them to claim the benefits of various government welfare schemes. Gehlot also announced a financial aid of Rs 19 crores for completing the project. The Minister said the government has extended pre-matric and post-matric scholarships to all eligible students.

“Disabilities is an umbrella term, covering impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions. An impairment is a problem in body function or structure; an activity limitation is a difficulty encountered by an individual in executing a task or action; while a participation restriction is a problem experienced by an individual in involvement in life situations.
