GOI signs Financing Agreement with World Bank for NCRMP-I & NCRPM-II

The Government of India and the World Bank have signed financing agreements worth USD 104 million and USD 308.40 million for National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Project-I (NCRPM-I) and NCRPM-II respectively. The agreement was signed by Raj Kumar, Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs on behalf of the Government of India, and John Blomquist, Program Leader and Acting Country Director in India, on behalf of the World Bank.

NCRMP-I covers States of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. The objective of NCRMP-II is to reduce vulnerability to cyclone and other hydro-meteorological hazards of coastal communities in the states of Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra and West Bengal; and increase the capacity of the state entities to effectively plan for and respond to disasters. The primary beneficiaries of NCRMP projects will be coastal communities in the target states.

Four Components of the Project

(i) Early Warning Dissemination System (EWDS) and Capacity building for coastal communities

(ii) Cyclone Risk Mitigation Infrastructure

(iii) Technical Assistance for National and State Level Capacity Building on Disaster Risk Management

(iv) Project Management and Implementation Support.

The projects are implemented by the Ministry of Home Affairs through National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
