G Mohan Kumar appointed as new Defence Secretary

Senior IAS officer G Mohan Kumar has been appointed as the new Defence Secretary. He will be replace Radha Krishna Mathur, a 1977 batch Manipur-Tripura cadre IAS officer, who is completing his tenure on May 28. Mohan Kumar was a 1979 batch IAS officer of Odisha cadre. He is currently holding the position of Secretary in Department of Defence Production. The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has approved the appointment of Kumar as Defence Secretary for a period of two years.

In his career, Kumar had served in Commerce Ministry, Ministry of Water Resources, and also as Steel Secretary. Kumar will be replaced by Ashok Kumar Gupta, a 1981 batch IAS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre. Gupta is Special Secretary in Department of Defence Production.
