Four indigenous Nuclear Reactors will be ready by 2019: GOI

A total of four indigenous nuclear reactors, which are under construction in two plants in Gujarat and Rajasthan, will be completed by 2019,Government of India said on 23rd April 2015.

1. At present four indigenous nuclear reactors

  • KAPP 3&4 (2X700 MW) at Kakrapar Gujarat
  • RAPP 7&8 (2X700 MW) at Rawatbhata, Rajasthan,

are expected to be completed by 2019.

2.  Fast Breeder Reactor of 500 MW capacity is at an advanced stage of commissioning at Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu.

3. About Kakrapar Atomic Power Project(KAPP) 

  • Kakrapar Atomic Power Station is a nuclear power station in India, which lies in the proximity of the city of Vyara in the state of Gujarat.
  • In January 2003, CANDU Owners Group (COG) declared K.A.P.P. as the best performing pressurized heavy water reactor.

4. About Rajasthan Atomic Power Project – RAPP

  • Rajasthan Atomic Power Project – RAPP in India is located about 65 kilometres (40 mi) from Kota by way of the Chambal River, approximately 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) above the dam that holds the Rana Pratap Sagar lake.
