Four Indian women stand out on the BBC 100 Women 2023 list

Introduction:

A recent announcement was made by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on the eleventh edition of the BBC 100 Women list for 2023.

This list features women who are both important and inspiring, and it comes from a variety of fields all around the world. The categories that make up this distinguished list are as follows:

Culture and Education,
Entertainment and Sport,
Politics and Advocacy,
and Science, Health, and Technology.

Not only does the BBC 100 Women 2023 list acknowledge the accomplishments of these four Indian women, but it also acknowledges the major contributions they have made in a variety of professions, which has inspired people all around the world.

The inclusion of a category titled “Climate Pioneers” highlights the significance of women taking the initiative to combat the climate catastrophe. Arati Kumar-Rao, who represents India on this front, is one of the women who has been recognized for her efforts.

Indian actress Dia Mirza, cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur, photographer Arati Kumar Rao, and Tibetan Buddhist nun Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo are among the women who have been selected for the BBC 100 Women 2023 list.

Harmanpreet Kaur:

Harmanpreet Kaur, who serves as the captain of the Indian Women’s National Cricket Team in all three forms, was honored in the area of Entertainment and Sport.
The month of May 2023 was the month that she was honored with the honor of being selected as one of the five Cricketers of the Year by Wisden.
Her ability to lead the Mumbai Indians to victory in the first ever Women’s Premier League, which took place in March 2023, was a demonstration of her leadership skills.
She led India to victory in the sport of cricket at the 2022 Asian Games, where they won the gold medal, and at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where they won the silver medal.
The record for leading in the most Twenty20 International matches (100) is held by Kaur, who shares the milestone with Meg Lanning of Australia.

Dia Mirza:

In addition to being an actress who has won multiple awards, Dia Mirza has been quite active in a variety of social and environmental concerns.
In addition to her role as a brand ambassador for the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), she was honored as a United Nations Environment Goodwill Ambassador in the fiscal year 2017.
Aside from being a board member of the Sanctuary Nature Foundation, Mirza is also an ambassador for Save the Children and the International Fund for Animal Welfare. Her involvement extends to organizations that help animals.
In the year 2022, she was presented with the “Mother Teresa Memorial Award” by Bhagat Singh Koshyari, who was serving as the Governor of Maharashtra at the time.

Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo:

A well-known author, educator, and the founder of the Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery in Himachal Pradesh, India, Tenzin Palmo was born in Hertfordshire, England. He is also a member of the Buddhist community.
Since 2008, she has been recognised as a Jetsunma, which translates to “Venerable Master,” after spending twelve years in a remote cave in the Himalayas, three of which were spent in intensive meditation retreats.
In the history of Tibetan Buddhism, Palmo is remembered as being one of the first Westerners to be consecrated as a nun.
Author of a number of works, including “Into the Heart of Life” and “Reflections on a Mountain Lake: Teachings on Practical Buddhism,” among others.

Arati Kumar-Rao:

Dedicated to portraying the impact that environmental deterioration has on biodiversity, Arati Kumar-Rao is a photographer who works independently and is also a National Geographic Explorer.
With the assistance of a funding from National Geographic, she is currently working on a project that documents the forced migration of people in India.
“Marginlands: Indian Landscapes On The Brink,” Kumar-Rao’s first book, has been shortlisted for the TataLitLive! Awards 2023 in the category of first book, non-fiction.
