Former Cabinet secretary Ajit Kumar Seth has been appointed as the Chairman of the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB). He replaces Atul Chadurvedi. Ajit Kumar Seth, a 1974-batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, completed his extended tenure of four years at the Cabinet secretariat on June 2015. As per the order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), he has been appointed for a period of three years or till he attains 65 years of age.
PSEB
- PESB is a high powered body constituted by Government of India on March 1987.
- It has been set up with the objective of evolving a sound managerial policy for the Central Public Sector Enterprises.
- It advise Government on appointments to their top management posts.
- It advise the Government on formulation and enforcement of a code of conduct and ethics for managerial personnel in PSEs.
DoPT
- It comes under the aegis of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.
- DOPT controls the cadres of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the Central Secretariat Service (CSS).
- DOPT is also responsible for the appointment of Chairman, Managing Director, full-time functional Director/ Member of the Board of Management of various public sector undertakings/enterprises, corporations, banks and financial institutions.
- The Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration and the Institute of Secretariat Training and Management are two major training institutions directly under the administrative control of the Department.
