Flipkart, the leading domestic online marketplace, is all set to sell cars and bikes online. It is tying up with two Bengaluru-based dealers and is offering to sell Maruti Suzuki cars and Bajaj motorcycles to customers.
Flipkart took the decision following the success of Snapdeal’s initiative in the online sale of vehicles. Snapdeal Motors was set up last month to meet the growing demand for two-wheelers, especially in tier-II and tier-III cities.
A pilot initiative has been launched by Flipkart in Bengaluru wherein it has tied up with Kalyani Motors for Maruti cars and Khivraj Motors for Bajaj two-wheelers. Snapdeal has been selling vehicles online for 10 months now that include mostly two-wheelers. The company claims that it has sold about 300,000 vehicles, most of it in tier-II and tier-III cities. While initially it has been selling bikes and scooters of Hero Motors, it plans to add Mahindra,Suzuki Motorcycles and Datsun bikes to its list of bike brands.
