Indian Sets New World Record For Most Push-Ups In Minute
KJ Joseph from Kerala has set a new world record for the maximum number of knuckle push-ups in a minute. The Karate and Kalari master did 82 push-ups in 60 seconds, that is 1.3 push-ups per second. The previous record was held by an American, Ron Cooper who did 79 push-ups in 2015. Joseph, who is also an Ayurveda practitioner has already set his eyes on improving his record. He says his next target is 90 push-ups in one minute. He has already entered the Universal Record Forum by doing 2092 push-ups in an hour. Joseph also holds another record for breaking iron-bars with bare hands. The pure-vegetarian martial artist says he has never hit a gym to increase his strength.

IRCTC awarded National Innovation Award
The new version of Next Generation e-Ticketing System (NGET) introduced by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has been bestowed gold in national award for e-governance 2015-16 in the category of “Innovative Use of ICT by Central Government PSUs”. The award seeks to recognize projects implemented by Central Government PSUs that demonstrate effective and innovative use of ICT which resulted in improvement in outcomes related to efficiency, effectiveness of process, cost, quality and service delivery. The awards were announced at the 19th National Conference on e-Governnace, held recently at Nagpur.

TRAI rules against Differential Pricing
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has barred telecom service providers from charging differential rates for data services, effectively prohibiting Facebook’s Free Basics and Airtel Zero platform by Airtel in their current form. TRAI said a fine of Rs. 50,000 would be levied per day, subject to a maximum of Rs. 50 lakh, for any violation of these regulations by the service providers. An exemption, however, has been made for offering emergency services.

February 10 – National Deworming Day
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) Government of India is implementing the National Deworming Day in schools and preschools (anganwadis) across India on 10 February 2016. To combat parasitic worm infections among preschool (anganwadi) and school-age children, albendezole 400 mg chewable tablets will be administered to children at government, government-aided, and private schools, and anganwadis. Out-of-school children will be administered the deworming tablet at anganwadis.

Google launches public flood alerts in India
Google has introduced a new flood alerts feature in India as a part of its efforts to make critical information around natural disasters more accessible to everyone. Available via Google Public Alerts platform, the alerts will be displayed on Google apps such as Google web search, Google Maps and Google Now cards. Clicking on the alert, users will be provided with details about hazards, expected timeline, maps and a few tips to stay safe.

Gujarat to get India’s first aviation park
The Gujarat government is planning to set up India’s first civil aviation park in the state. The aviation park will have facilities such as air strips, training school, helipad and a flight simulator. The park will provide a platform for human resources and manufacturing activities related to the industry. It would be a one-stop destination for aerospace training, research and manufacturing.

GOI to develop North East as petroleum hub
India will focus on the north-eastern region to expand its hydrocarbon and petrochemical industries with an eye on markets such as Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar and Thailand, as per a new vision 2030 document for developing the region as a petroleum hub. The plan also proposes expanding fuel marketing infrastructure in the region and opening up retailing facilities in neighbouring countries with local partners.

Maharashtra ranks one in Internet readiness index
Maharashtra has emerged as the top ranking state in terms of overall Internet readiness index, according to a new report published by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and Indicus Analytics. The report titled ‘Index of Internet Readiness of Indian States’ pits Karnataka and Gujarat as close second and third while Telengana and Tamil Nadu rank fourth and fifth respectively.

IIT-M partners Nokia for Rural net connectivity
Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) has partnered with Nokia Networks to create technology solutions that will enhance broadband connectivity in rural India. Under the three-year partnership, Nokia will fund and provide technological expertise for research at IIT-M’s Centre of Excellence for Wireless Technology (CEWiT). The project will evaluate options for using unlicensed spectrum to deliver cost-effective, last-mile broad-band connectivity to remote rural communities in India, complementing the government’s National Optical Fibre Network initiative.

NCBC asks for 27% OBC Reservation in Private Sector
The National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) advised enacting a legislation that would make it mandatory for private entities, including cooperative and philanthropic organisations, to reserve 27% of all hiring for people from the so-called other backward classes (OBCs). Quotas are the rule in government jobs and schools in India with politics often holding sway over who gets benefits, while critics urge for a transition to need-based programmes that provide advantages based on economic or geographic conditions.

Haryana signs Rs 1000 Crore pact with Indo-UK Healthcare
The Haryana government has inked an agreement with Indo-UK Healthcare Private Limited to establish medical institutions in the state with proposed investment of Rs 1,000 crore. This project is expected to generate employment for 3,000 persons. Under this agreement, the Haryana government would facilitate Indo-UK Healthcare Private Limited to obtain necessary permissions, registrations, approvals and clearances for the project from the departments concerned in order to ensure the establishment of the project in a time-bound manner.

Pakistan Panel approves Hindu Marriage Bill 2015
After decades of delay and inaction, the Hindu minority community in Pakistan will soon have a marriage law as a parliamentary panel has unanimously approved the Hindu Marriage Bill. The National Assembly Standing Committee on Law and Justice passed the final draft of Hindu Marriage Bill 2015, where five Hindu lawmakers were specially invited. The committee adopted the bill unanimously after making two amendments to fix the minimum age of marriage at 18 and making the law applicable to the whole country. The bill will now be tabled in the National Assembly where it has fair chances of being passed as the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party is supporting it.
