PM dedicates Paradip Refinery to the nation

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has dedicated the state of the art Paradip Refinery in Odisha, to the nation. Addressing the large gathering on the occasion, the Prime Minister said he appreciated the participation of a such a large number of people in an official programme related to development. Remembering former Chief Minister of Odisha Shri Biju Patnaik, the Prime Minister said Paradip will now become “Vikas Dweep” – the island of development for the people of Odisha. He said youth would benefit from employment opportunities, and poor women across the country who depended on firewood for fuel, would get access to LPG.  Paradip is overall IOC’s 11th refinery to be set up and has installed capacity of 15 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA).

India plans to eliminate malaria by 2027

On February 11, GOI is going to launch an ambitious programme that seeks to eliminate malaria by 2027. The WHO’s global target for malaria elimination is 2030. Under the National Framework for Malaria Elimination, now in final stages of planning ahead of a formal launch soon, states have been divided into three categories based on their annual parasite incidence (API). Elimination will be undertaken in a phased manner, and states with low incidence rates taken first, followed by the high-incidence ones.

Ratan Tata now invests in B2B marketplace Moglix

E-commerce company Moglix has announced an undisclosed financial investment in the company by industrialist Ratan Tata. Tata has already made investments in many e-commerce and new-age technology enabled companies. Moglix specialises in B2B procurement of industrial products like MROs, Fasteners and industrial electricals with manufacturers across India, China and other Asian countries as partners.

Maharashtra to set up India’s first Inernational Arbitration Centre

Maharashtra’s ambitious plans to set up India’s first international arbitration centre in Mumbai has begun ahead of the Make In India Week to be held in the city from February 13 to 18. In the absence of an international arbitration centre, the majority of global disputes land at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre. Overseas disputes arbitration, if pursued in Mumbai, would bring revenue worth Rs 2 billion.

India to host first ever Global Maritime Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India will host the first ever Global Maritime Summit in April this year and called for maritime cooperation stating that the seas must be used to build peace, friendship, trust and curb conflict. The Prime Minister said that international maritime stability cannot be preserved by a single nation with the complexity of modern day challenges. He also said India is and has always been a maritime nation.

Britain to build World’s largest wind farm

The UK wind energy industry received a boost with the announcement of the world’s biggest offshore wind farm, to be built off the north-east coast. The announcement has been made by Danish firm, Dong Energy. The company, which has already put £6bn into wind power in the UK, said this was its largest investment in offshore wind to date. An estimated 2,000 jobs will be created for the construction of the project, with a further 300 jobs likely to be created for its operation.

India and China hold first ever joint military exercises in Ladakh

Indian and Chinese armies are breaking new grounds of friendship on the sensitive Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the cold desert of Ladakh. For the first time Indian and Chinese armies held a Joint Tactical exercise (JET) on the sensitive LAC in Eastern Ladakh. The exercise is a part of ongoing initiatives being taken by India and China to ensure greater interaction between troops stationed along the LAC in a bid ensure peace and tranquillity on the border.
